Past Tense

To form past participle version of the stem add the suffix. Singular form must match the subject gender.

Singular form (masculine):

~l ~л

ima~, има~ (have stem)

On imal tri auta ale užival tolko dva iz nih.
Он имал три аута але уживал толко два из них.
(He had three cars but he used only two of them)

~la ~ла

~lo ~ло

Plural form:

~li ~ли

Examples

ona imala, она имала (she had)

to imalo, то имало (it had)

ljudi imali, люди имали (people had)

говори~, govori~ (speak stem)

on govoril, он говорил (he spoke)

ona govorila, она говорила (she spoke)

to govorilo, то говорило (it spoke)

ljudi govorili, люди говорили (people spoke)

Past Perfect

говори~, govori~ (speak stem)

ja sem govoril, я сем говорил (I have spoken M)

ty si govoril, ты си говорил (thou have spoken M)

ja sem govorila, я сем говорила (I have spoken F)

ty si govorila, ты си говорила (thou have spoken F)

my sme govorili, мы сме говорили (we have spoken)

vy ste govorili, вы сте говорили (you have spoken)

ljudi su govorili, люди су говорили (people have spoken)

Irregular Past

Some verbs have irregular past forms:

běži бьежи (run), biegl бьегл (ran)

bije биє (beat), bil бил (beaten)

drži држи (hold), držal држал (held)

ide иде (go), šel шел (went)

je є (is), byl был (was)

je є (eat), jedl єдл (ate)

jest єст (there is), byl был (there was)

može може (can), mogl могл (could)

myje мыє (wash), myl мыл (washed)

pije (drink), pil пил (drank)

piše пише (write), pisal писал (wrote)

peče пече (bake), pekl пекл (baked)

pribyva прибыва (arrive), pribyl прибыл (arrived)

prijma прийма (accept), prijal приял (accepted)

raste расте (grow), rosl росл (grew)

reče рече (say), rekl рекл (said)

vodi води (lead), vedl ведл (led)

vraca враца (return), vrnil врнил (returned)
